The Coesewijne Nature Reserve , north-west from Paramaribo is a special area. It is a complete different nature reserve compared to the rainforest areas further southward in Suriname. In this watery area with tidal forests , swamps and savannahs, we will go search for the giant otters, manetees, capybaras, monkeys and a big amount of particular birds. This is a wonderful adventure for young and old.
What are we going to do on this trip?
On day 1 we will gather at “fietsen in Suriname” where we will go with our canoes by truck to the starting point of the journey, the Boven Coesewijne. We will pave a way over small and dense creeks, get out of the boat every now and then and drag it over fallen trees and other obstacles. We will make an early camp and what is more wonderful than to enjoy every sound of the forest with the delight of a good meal knowing that scientifically there is no one even remotely closeby. Only us and the jungle.
On day 2 after breakfast, we will sail further down the Goliath creek where it meets the Coesewijne. Furthermore, we will sail through the Coesewijne Nature Reserve and will frequently make a stop to enjoy this wonderful environment. Here you can see quite a few birds like the osprey, weaverbirds and different kinds of parrots. After this we will start our last route over the Coesewijne to Stinasu basic camp. At the end of the afternoon we will be back in Paramaribo.
